Magnesite is a natural magnesium carbonate mineral. Magnesite is used in the ceramic tile industry as Backwash. Magnesite slurry is prepared and applied to the back of the tiles before firing to inhibit the tiles from sticking to the rollers in a kiln. Magnesite, being soft, does not abrade the rollers.

Magnesite is also used in the production of MgO which is an important refractory material used in linings of blast furnaces and kilns.

Zigma’s magnesite (ZYGOB) is sourced internationally and processed with tight controls to create a fine free flowing powder that can be used in backwash. Controlled grinding helps in dispersing the product easily in backwash formula. Right selection of source material and control on iron content helps reduce maintenance of rollers in ceramic tile kilns.

Zigma International also offers caustic calcined magnesite (ZYGOB CCM).
